This April we celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Fair Housing Act, and commemorate Martin Luther King Jr.’s important legacy. Read below to find out more about the activities SCFH is joining with others to host.

SCFH will have a table at all of these events, and staff will be there to answer your questions.

April 4 – MLK Commemoration Youth Art Showcase

Join us for a night with Martin Luther King Jr. and RI Youth Artists. Nearly 100 youth artists from across RI took part in our poster submission contest in commemoration of MLK. April 4th, 2018 will mark 50 years since King’s murder which took place in Memphis while supporting striking Black sanitation workers. The work these youths have created is inspiring and a perfect depiction of King’s continued fight and everlasting legacy.

April 25 – Fair Housing for Elders: Achieving Equal Access While Aging

SouthCoast Fair Housing, the Rhode Island Commission for Human Rights and HousingWorks RI are hosting a panel to discuss fair housing issues faced by elders. Join us to discuss these important issues and to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Fair Housing Act.

April 26 – MLK50: Awareness, Advocacy & Activism (Español)

Location: Bristol Community College, 800 Purchase Street, New Bedford, MA

May 5th – 50 Years Later…

Rally in Commemoration of Martin Luther King Jr.
